The Shaver Lake Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1958, by Chief Larry Shannon. For over 60 years we have been supporting the residents and visitors of the Shaver Lake area.
In our early days, our first engine (a 1944 International) was parked outside where the Hungry Hut stands today.
The call to fire was made by sounding a siren at Chief Shannon’s hardware store (where Shaver Lake Pizza is today).
Today we have two fire houses, the “old” and the “new”. The “old” fire house was built in 1962 by volunteer labor and donated material. It still stands proud as you enter the town of Shaver Lake.
We have seen various engines and water tenders come and go. Some were donated to us, and some we donated to others when we were done. Check out our Engines page for details and pictures of our current apparatus.
We respond to over 130 calls a year, including Medical, Fire, and Motor Vehicle related incidents. Our members are all local residents, and we take pride in our community.
We participate in various local charities and events, including the Shaver Lake Special Olympics , and various marathons and races.
We train hard to be the best at what we do in order to provide the best service to our community. We welcome you to join us, train with us, and be a part of something big.
